As my summer internship at BW Events Tech comes to a close, I would like to pull back the curtain on the whole experience and share what it’s really like to work at BW.
I arrived with the goal of gaining hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the fast-paced event technology industry. What I found was so much more: a chance to contribute to impactful projects, overcome a key personal challenge, and get a true “inside scoop” on what makes BW a leader in events technology design and service excellence.
One of my most significant projects was creating a comprehensive case study resource for the sales team. This wasn’t just a research task; it was an exercise in communication and discovery, rooted in BW’s service-first philosophy. I spent much of my time meeting with account and project managers, hearing their stories of success, strategic decisions, and client growth. This experience was eye-opening and gave me a newfound appreciation for the thoughtful, tailored solutions BW crafts for each client. The independence I experienced this summer wasn’t unique. As a fully remote company,BW trusts its team members.
For one month-long project, I dove into BW current website and mapped out the layout in preparation for future redesign. Taking full ownership of a task from initial ideation to completion taught me invaluable lessons about project management and the importance of thorough planning. I also had the opportunity to contribute to several other projects, including writing for the internal newsletter, drafting press releases, configuring ad campaigns, and creating social media content.
This summer wasn’t without its challenges, though. Early on, I struggled with the confidence to reach out to the seasoned professionals I was surrounded by. However, my work, especially on the case studies, required me to push past that fear. I learned to rely on others and advocate for my needs, a big personal challenge I overcame and a skill I’ll carry with me. Even though BW is a fully remote organization, I never felt a disconnect. Everyone was warm and willing to help, which speaks volumes about the supportive company culture that helped me thrive.
My experience at BW, though, wasn’t just about a single project or a list of tasks. It was about witnessing firsthand how BW’s comprehensive service offerings come together to create exceptional client experiences. At their core, BW’s services can be broken down into four main categories:
- Event Tech Consulting: BW consultants are seasoned industry experts who review client tech stack to ensure seamless information flow for attendees, exhibitors, and internal teams, ultimately saving clients time and money.
- Platform Management & Implementation: BW architects and project managers take the stress out of configuring event technology. They specialize in building a solid foundation for their clients’ events, providing everything from complete functional solutions and custom architecture to expert API configuration and complex integrations. BW ensures every event site is perfectly configured and provides ongoing support throughout the event lifecycle.
- Custom Solutions & Development: BW can take an out-of-the-box event platform and customize it to fit the design and functionality needs of any client. In addition, the devs at BW create unique features like gamification and emoji feedback widgets and build custom APIs. The result is a truly immersive and unforgettable event for every attendee.
- On-Site Event Tech Management: BW professionals are equipped to travel with clients to ensure a flawless event day. Whether it’s configuring on-site tech like printers and scanners, assisting with registration, or managing the on-site tech stack, the BW team is there to ensure things run smoothly and to troubleshoot issues in real-time.
The real magic behind these offerings is BW’s overarching mission and philosophy. They are fiercely platform-agnostic, meaning they don’t force clients into a cookie-cutter solution. Instead, they mold to different tech stacks, understand a wide range of challenges, and deploy a custom solution tailored to each client’s brand and budget. The true engine of this approach is the people. BW has gathered event tech professionals with deep industry experience from a multitude of backgrounds, and each person brings their own expertise, be it a specific registration platform, a certain development style, or an on-site solution.
This creates a powerful synergy: when you engage with one BW expert, you aren’t just getting their knowledge; you’re gaining access to the collective wisdom of an entire team. This “village of knowledge” allows BW to field an “arsenal” of experts for any given project, ensuring every challenge is met with a comprehensive, well-rounded solution.
Looking back on my time at BW Events Tech, I’m struck by how much I’ve grown and how much I’ve learned about the event tech industry. This summer was defined by meaningful work, from collaborating on client case studies to taking ownership of a website redesign project to publications, media, and more. More important than any project, though, it taught me the value of a supportive, collaborative environment and gave me the confidence to push past personal challenges.
This unforgettable experience wouldn’t have been possible without the trust and support of the leadership. Thank you, Brandon Wernli, for the opportunity to contribute to a company that so deeply values expertise and client-centric solutions. And a heartfelt thank you to my supervisor, Victoria Rasmussen, for her invaluable guidance and for giving me the space to learn and thrive.
My biggest piece of advice for others looking to pursue similar opportunities is to find a team that’s genuinely passionate about the purpose of what they do. That passion is what drives innovation and makes even the most complex projects fun and rewarding. When you’re surrounded by people who are excited to solve problems and see the real-world impact of their work, it transforms a temporary opportunity into a truly unforgettable journey.
