Cisco’s exhibit hall, called the “World of Solutions,” was a buzzing hub of activity which hosted hundreds of sponsor booths. In 2018, it was Cisco’s goal to revolutionize the World of Solutions experience and strategically think bigger!
The new plan would greatly enhance this environment by developing a city-like experience wherein breakouts, partner sessions, demos, sponsor booths, certification exams, labs, recreational activities, food and more could be experienced in one environment. The city included buroughs (organized by topic/solution), streets, bus stations and periodic city maps.
In previous years, attendees had vocalized a desire to ensure that their journey was more intuitive. With this in mind, it was time for the Cisco team to bring some technology and process together to help enhance that experience. As a result, this new idea introduced some major questions: would attendees get lost? Would they be able to easily locate what they came for? How do we create a personalized experience amid all the noise?
A solution was developed that integrated both Cisco and third-party supplier solutions to develop a mobile AI-powered assistant to help them navigate the city.
Here is how it worked: As the user came to a city cross-road within the Cisco Live “World of Solutions” environment, they were met with physical city sign posts. These city signs were initially blank until the attendee held up their event mobile app and received personalized recommended directions via Augmented Reality – these directionals pointed them to demos, sessions and other activities that aligned carefully with their interests (see visual for reference).
When the attendee tapped on the directional recommendation, their mobile device would launch the city map, wherein Cisco CMX technology routed them from where they were to their desired location. It became similar to a type of indoor GPS experience for the user. Some outcomes from this solution included:
- 14,000 person adoption rate
- Increased survey scores from 3.98 to 4.22 out of 5 for those asked if they were able to easily navigate the space
- Increased survey scores from 4.11 to 4.32 out of 5 for those asked if they felt they were able to find the solutions they were looking for
- Silver award at EventTech
